Prototype and Model

Obviously David put a lot of extra TLC and brass details into the construction of the kit.

He then painted the model in the proper colors and hand striped the panels.

This model took 1st Place in the Locomotive Category at the 2004 National Narrow Gauge Convention.

C&S Flanger 016

Derrell Poole kit bashed this On3 Model from an old Durango Press,
D&RGW Flanger Kit.  Only the hardware was used from the kit.  The frame was scratch built as was some of the details.  Trucks were provided by Coronado.
 

Flanger 016 was built in the mid 1880's by the DSP&P.  The railroad built a total of four(4) of these cars and they earned their keep in the everlasting battle against the snow.  The car became the property of the C&S in 1899.  Eventually it became the sole piece of snow fighting equipment on the run from Buena Vista to Romley after that line was isolated.  It was scrapped in 1926 when the line was abandoned.  This model has won awards at The National Narrow Gauge Conventions.
 

Derrell scratch built this On3 model of a C&S Cinder Dump Car.  The only parts that were not handmade were the trucks, couplers and brass castings such as turnbuckles, NBWs, and others.  The wood was hand cut to protypical sizes and included ship lapped flooring.

The hinge-dogs operated and were each made from over 30 individual pieces of brass soldered together.  The car also included white metal parts from his "The C&S Connection" line such as the striker plate. 
 

The model took Best of Show at a Regional NMRA Convention earning 115 of a possible 120 points, it has also been featured in Model Railroader and other smaller publications. 
 

This On3 model represents one of the type 1 coal cars built by the C&S in 1902.  Derrell scratch built this model to represent a post 1917 car with renewed C&S Roman style lettering.  The model also featured hand cut lumber and ship lapped flooring.  It was built using many commercial parts of both plastic and brass.
 

597 represents one of the inherited 27' Tiffany Cars that came to the C&S in 1899.  The railroad rebuilt all of the Tiffany Cars in 1902 after they experienced much difficulty from the old worn out cars.  This On3 model was scratch built by Derrell using his usual methods of hand cut lumber and commercial parts.  The model is painted orange and red.

This On3 model depicts a St. Charles built Refrigerator delivered to the railroad in November 1898.  The builder patterned these cars after the Armor Refrigerators they had just completed.  Initially, these cars were problematic on the South Park, so for a short while at least, they were confined to the Clear Creek.  The model is painted yellow and red with black hardware.  The poster was developed by Derrell and depicted a common practice of the turn of the century period.

Derrell thinks he built this On3 model using a brass commercial tank, but since he first built the car with a plastic scratch built tank, he can't be certain.  Never the less the model represents the tank car after it's mid 30's wreck when it was first placed on an old St. Charles Coal Car platform.
