Rare view of a C&S train apparently west bound at
the Colorado Midland Crossing

My Sn3 model of C&S 69 began with a scratch built tender using the etching sets I published a year or so ago.

Cast parts came from an Overland Model of 69.  Wheels are code 88 by NWSL which provide a more prototypical profile.

No. 69 was an unusual engine in that it's tender didn't have the typical planking on the frame deck.  Apparently the tank sat directly on the frame.  The tender is complete and the engine is at about 90%.

The headlamp, the stack and the air tanks are all fabricated from scratch.  The headlamp reflector is a piece of turned aluminum with a parabolic curve and it gives off a slight beam when lit.

The stack has multiple tapers as observed on the prototype.  On the late Baldwin engines (B-4-D) the air tanks were mounted over the taper in the boiler and they were canted forward - in other words they did not sit parallel to the ground.

Here 69 is complete (more or less) and begins her trials.

She sits under steam in the midday sun, her compressor occasionally huffing.  Other modifications to the Overland Model included extensive reworking of her plumbing and back dating of the cab.

Note her wooden pilot and beam.  These were simply modified from the stock parts.  Note also that she does not have a pilot deck.  Finally note the location of the marker lamps.

69 is equipped with a Tsunami Light Steam Decoder and a High Bass Speaker.

Another rare view near the turn of the century thought to be on the Longs Creek Loop just east of Trout Creek Pass.
